Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 Camera Quality

Samsung seems to be continuing its pattern of alternating camera upgrades between its foldable devices each year. In 2024, the Galaxy Z Flip got the camera refresh; this year, it’s the Z Fold’s turn. As a result, the Galaxy Z Fold7 sees improvements to both its main and ultrawide cameras, while the Z Flip7 sticks with largely the same hardware as last year.
That means the Z Flip7 retains the 50MP Tetrapixel main camera introduced with the Flip6, which replaced the outdated 12MP sensor. The upgrade brought better zoom capabilities—realistically capped at 2x—but still offered solid performance within that range. This same sensor handles main camera duties again this year.
The ultrawide camera remains unchanged as well. It still lacks autofocus, which is notable now that the Z Fold7 features an AF-enabled ultrawide—previously something Samsung reserved for its Ultra line. But the Flip remains on the fixed-focus side of things.
The internal selfie camera also goes untouched, though that's not necessarily a drawback. It performed well before, and the improved cover display on the Z Flip7 makes it even easier to use the rear cameras for selfies, reducing the need for a high-end internal sensor.
As expected from the form factor, the Z Flip7 offers a strong set of camera features tailored to its unique design. Its cover screen may be the best in the foldable space for camera use—you can switch shooting modes and zoom (up to 2x), a capability that Motorola's Razr line still lacks. The internal screen supports flexible angles for waist-level or overhead shooting.

Image quality from the main camera is solid in good lighting. It delivers sharp detail, natural color reproduction, low noise, and reliable auto white balance—albeit with a slight warmth. Saturation is on the lower side but still produces pleasant tones. Exposure and dynamic range are both well-managed.
Full-resolution 50MP shots from the main sensor offer more detail, though they also introduce some grain and noise. Post-processing these down to 12MP can yield sharper results than the default output, although dynamic range may suffer in high-contrast scenes.
At 2x zoom, the 12.5MP cropped images still hold up well, offering decent detail and making them a great choice for close-ups—especially when the 1x option doesn’t get you close enough. Portraits at 2x trade a bit of fine detail for a better shooting distance and perspective. Since Samsung defaults portrait mode to 2x, it’s clear that’s the preferred balance—and it’s a smart choice.
The ultrawide camera, while limited by the lack of autofocus, still performs well with distant scenes. It's sharp overall, with only slight softness in the corners. It also maintains good dynamic range and color consistency with the main camera, and its wide field of view is a major strength.
As with most clamshell foldables, the Z Flip7 offers multiple options for taking selfies. The internal 10MP selfie cam produces detailed shots, though they could use more contrast and saturation. You can also shoot 2x zoom selfies, which roughly equate to a 46mm focal length—good enough to fit your head in landscape orientation at arm’s length. Portrait orientation works even better, and setting the phone up across the room on a surface can produce excellent results as well.
